Hi, my name is

An English speaking reader sent me this question:

How do you pronounce “Øystein”?

English speakers tend to go for something like “Oisteen”, but here is the correct pronouncation:

Ø like the U in Urge.
Y like in Yeti.
ST like in STone.
EIN like in EINstein.

Øy-stein with pressure on the Y. Øystein is an old norse name, and the original meaning is lucky stone/stone amulet. Øystein I was king of Norway from 1103 to 1123.
