The Sterile Eye

Check out this video of a surgeon at Kobe University using an iPad to view 3D and 2D CT images while operating.

The touchscreen seems to be working fine, even though it’s covered with sterile plastic film and the surgeon is using gloves.

  saw this the other day. very cool use of new technology. wonder how long it will take to become a staple in daily operating room setups.

  Hi, I’m from Japan. Here’s what they are saying.

  This is School of Medicine, Kobe University.
  They are performing an operation using an iPad.
  Surgeon A: “Here, there are two.”
  Surgeon B: “Year.”
  Normally, they have to look at the CT image
  that is far from the operating table.
  But having an iPad at hand, operation is smoother.
  Dr. Sugimoto: “The great thing was that all of us shared the same image.”
